Girls Varsity Basketball · Athlete of the Week: Mariah Leinbach

Congratulations to Mariah Leinbach for being named Athlete of the Week. This weekly award is sponsored by the Sports and Entertainment Marketing classes at Socastee High School in partnership with the athletic department.

Mariah Leinbach is a junior on the girls’ basketball team. She has been playing basketball since she was five years old and was a team captain this season. She has also played softball and is going to play on the varsity girls’ soccer team this year. “My favorite part about being on the basketball team is my teammates and my strength is being a leader,” she explained. Mariah helped lead the way to a great season for the Lady Braves as the girls won 17 games and made the playoffs. Mariah has one more season left in high school but aspires to keep playing the game beyond next year. “I’d like to get an offer to play college basketball, and I’m thinking about majoring in physical therapy,” said Mariah.

Coach Lewis made the following remarks about her team captain: “Mariah had a great season for our team and demonstrated a lot of positive leadership qualities. She averaged double figures in region play, and had a career high in our last region game against South Florence, scoring 24 points. I look forward to seeing Mariah continue to improve and help lead the way her senior season.”
