Congratulations to Laura Infield for being named Athlete of the Week. This weekly award is sponsored by the Sports and Entertainment Marketing classes at Socastee High School in partnership with the athletic department.
Laura is a senior on the cheerleading squad and has been cheering since the 7th grade. She is a flyer for the Braves, and this is her third year on varsity. Laura loves sports and started cheering because of that passion. “I love sports and cheer gives me the opportunity to attend all the games and get involved both with the players and the fans. I think my understanding of what is going on in the game helps me succeed as a cheerleader because I know what cheer to call and when to call it,” explained Laura.
Laura enjoys the playoffs and rivalry games most because of the high level of intensity. As a senior leader, she helps organize game day attire and themes, calls cheers, and keeps everyone informed and involved. “I am going to miss the bus rides for away games and always having something to do after school. I have enjoyed each year of cheer and the bonds with both the coaches and the cheerleaders, the memories, and the jokes we’ve made,” said Laura. Laura has plans to attend either Clemson or Penn State and major in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Communications. She will likely be an Elementary School teacher one day but her dream job is to be an ESPN sports commentator on College Gameday.
Coach Cruze made the following remarks about Laura: “Over the season, Laura has consistently stepped up and proven herself as a leader. Laura exemplifies school spirit and the knowledge of the sports she cheers for. She is someone that all of the coaches can count on. I am proud to have an athlete like Laura on the team this season and I will be sad to see her graduate.”
