Congratulations to Kenney Solomon and Mae Mae Arnold for being named Athletes of the Week. This weekly award is sponsored by the Sports and Entertainment Marketing classes at Socastee High School in partnership with the athletic department.
Kenney is a senior on the track team and will be attending the University of Tennessee next year on a football scholarship. Kenney placed second at the state track meet in both the 100M and the 200M to cap off an outstanding high school athletic career. “Before a meet, I like to stretch and eat carbs and get mentally focused to run,” said Kenney. Kenney was named the Male Athlete of the Year at the Socastee Senior Athletic Banquet. Coach Arrington has coached some talented athletes at Socastee, but says Kenney is definitely one of the best. “Kenney is one of the most gifted and talented sprinters I have ever coached,” said Coach Arrington.
Mae Mae is a junior on the track team and is also a standout player for the girls’ basketball team being named to the All-Region team this past basketball season. Mae Mae placed fifth in the 400M run at the state track meet and made the All-State team. “Before a meet, I pray and listen to music. I don’t eat any junk food and I make sure I have stretched,” said Mae Mae. Mae Mae has aspirations to run track at the college level and looks forward to playing basketball and running track her senior year. “Mae Mae is one of the most dedicated and focused sprinters I have ever coached at SHS,” said Coach Arrington.
