Girls Varsity Basketball · Athlete of the Week: Mae Mae Arnold

Congratulations to Mae Mae Arnold for being named Athlete of the Week. The Sports and Entertainment Marketing classes at Socastee High School in partnership with the athletic department sponsor this weekly award.

Mae Mae Arnold is a junior on the girls’ varsity basketball team. She has been playing the sport since she was 9 years old and knows how to prepare for a big game. “I listen to music and watch film,” she said. As a member of the team, she said one of things she enjoys most about playing is bonding with her teammates.  Mae Mae was named to the Region 6 AAAAA All Region Team, as she helped the Lady Braves capture the first region title in girls’ basketball since 2003. As the pressure mounted during the team’s run at a region title, Mae Mae focused on her strengths as a player and her mental approach to help the team win. “My strengths are good defense and sportsmanship, and I handle pressure on the court by blocking out everything in the audience and focusing on one play at a time,” she explained.

Coach Lewis said the following about Mae Mae: “Mae Mae is the ultimate teammate. She gives everything she has in every practice and game and always brings a positive and determined attitude. She takes pride in playing great defense and always provides a spark when the team needs one. It is a pleasure to coach Mae Mae, and I look forward to a great senior year for her next season.”
