The Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams had a busy week running three times over the span of seven days. Both men and women kicked off the season last Wednesday with an inter-squad scrimmage that gave all runners the chance to run the home course. For some athletes this was their first chance to trek the course.
On Saturday both teams competed in the Chief Invitational at North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex. Men’s Varsity took home the second place trophy with Tyler Ward (senior) finishing 10th overall in a time of 18:40. Alex Price (senior) finished 7th overall with a time of 20:26 in the JV event. The Women were led by Kyla Marques (freshman) with a time of 25:13. The Women’s team finished fifth overall.
The Braves turned around on Tuesday to compete is quad meet with St. James, Waccamaw, and North Myrtle Beach. The women were led by Fianna Steves (freshman) in 26:15 followed closely by Kyla Marques in 26:17. The men’s team had Ward Wilson (senior) leading the way in 19:09, followed by Kyler Evans (junior-19:14), and Tyler Ward (19:19).
The Running Braves compete again at the Coaches Classic Invitational in Columbia on Saturday. Coaches Classic is the largest Cross Country event in the state with over 3,000 athletes competing.
