Congratulations to Noah Johnson for being named Athlete of the Week. The Sports and Entertainment Marketing classes at Socastee High School in partnership with the athletic department sponsor this weekly award.
Noah is a senior at Scholars Academy. He was introduced to tennis at the age of eight and started playing competitively when he was ten. “I love the combination of athletic ability and strategy. I enjoy the challenge that comes with playing because there is no single formula to beating every single tennis player out there, and each one requires a slightly different game plan,” explained Noah. When it comes to preparing for a match, Noah focuses on the mental side of the game and strives to establish a positive attitude heading into competition. He plays three times a week during the off season to keep his skills sharp. Noah is a lefty and so is his role model, Rafael Nadal. “I’ve modeled my game off of Rafael Nadal from my extreme grips to my never-give-up mentality on the court,” he said.
Noah has been a member of the Socastee tennis program for six years and accomplished an impressive feat last week. “At our first playoff match, Noah got his 100th win in his six years of playing for the Braves,” said Coach Warstler. After losing five seniors to graduation last season and adding seven new players to the roster, many people probably thought this would be a rebuilding season for the Braves. The team proved many wrong with a winning season that included a second place region finish and a third round playoff appearance. “The fact that we were as successful as we were with so many new people is simply amazing,” said Noah.
