Braves News · Mr. Rich’s Fall Sports Address

18033119_10154552773381868_510445504692319675_nBrave Nation had a successful fall sports season.  Of the seven varsity sports teams participating in the fall, the Braves brought home region championships in both Girls’ Tennis and Boys’ Cross Country.  All fall sports teams qualified for the playoffs or had individuals qualify for regions and states.  Six student-athletes were chosen as all-region performers.

The varsity football team made great strides this year with an overall record of 5-5.  The Braves were chosen as an at-large team for the playoffs and had the challenge of playing Fort Dorchester in the first round of the playoffs.  Although the Braves fell short, they had a rewarding season and have momentum as they regroup for next year.

Varsity Volleyball team finished with a 7-15 record and finished 4th in the region this fall. They qualified for the playoffs and travelled to River Bluff in the first round.  Though they did not meet their goal, they are a young team with great promise moving forward.  One indicator of this promising future: Junior Anna Walker was selected to the All-Region team.

Varsity Girls’ Tennis finished the year 19-7 overall and 10-0 in region play.  The Lady Braves won the region championship for the 3rd straight year.  As a team, the Lady Braves had a 2nd place finish in the prestigious Palmetto Tennis Classic and made it to the 2nd round of the state playoffs. Individually, Anna Brice Cox was named the Region Player of the Year and a North/South Participant; Anna also qualified for states.

Varsity Girls’ Golf finished the season with an 8-3 overall record in matches and finished 2nd in the region.  The Lady Braves were the top region team at the Lower State Tournament and finished 6th overall, which qualified them for the state tournament.  The Lady Braves finished 14th in the state to cap off a very successful season.  Lawson Devers was selected to the All-Region team.

The Braves’ swimming teams had a rebuilding year.  A very young team this year that, coach Preslar believes, “has significant potential for the future.” All of the swimmers made significant gains during the season and each posted a personal best time in the Region Championship swim meet. We look for the team to continue to improve and grow next year.

The Boys’ Cross country team won their seventh consecutive region championship and defended their Horry County Championship.  Connor Fata, Lucas Davis and Tyler Ward earned All-Region honors. Lucas Davis ran his personal best at the Lower State meet to qualify for states.  It was a great season for the Boys’ Cross Country team.

The Girls’ Cross Country team showed significant improvement throughout the year.  The Lady Braves will return all of its runners next year, providing a great deal of promise for the future.  Although there were no state qualifiers this year, the future looks bright for the Lady Braves.

Thank you to all of the fans for packing the stands and supporting our fall sports teams.  Also, a huge thank you to all of our sponsors for your continued support of Braves’ Athletics.  We look forward to seeing everyone in the stands this winter.  Go Braves! Best of luck to our winter sports teams.
